How the Deceased Are Identified in Ukraine: Details from Klymenko.


According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, the Ministry of Internal Affairs experts conduct up to 10,000 examinations every month to identify individuals. These examinations are crucial as they relate to the relatives and every part of the body fragment. Experts work on every detail, trying to identify the deceased's identity.
Diverse Identification Methods
According to the First Deputy Head of the National Police, Maksym Tsutskiridze, various methods are used for identifying persons. In addition to DNA examinations, comparisons are made based on dental features, fingerprints, and other individual characteristics such as tattoos, scars, and external features.
“Relatives of missing persons can submit their DNA profiles at police departments or the International Commission on Missing Persons,” emphasized Tsutskiridze.
In the context of the deterioration of body storage conditions for Ukrainians by the Russians, Acting Head of the Main Bureau of the Forensic Medical Examination of the Ministry of Health Vitaliy Povstyan noted the difficulties faced by staff due to the use of a large number of weapons and the objective reasons of war.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs experts continue to conduct thousands of examinations for identifying individuals using various methods to ensure the correctness of this process.
