Japan and the USA plan to establish joint production of AMRAAM missiles and Patriot complexes.
This information is reported by Kyodo agency with reference to a joint document that was adopted after the meeting of the heads of foreign policy and defense departments of both countries, reports FREEДОМ.
"Following Japan's recent steps to ease arms transfer rules, Tokyo and Washington will discuss the possibility of expanding the production of the ground-based interceptor missiles Patriot Advanced Capability-3 and the medium-range air-to-air missiles AMRAAM, which were developed in the United States," reports the publication.
The ministers also confirmed that they are considering the creation of a unified command of the American forces stationed in Japan. The new structure will be transferred the operational command functions of more than 50,000 American military personnel. These functions are currently performed by the US Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii.
