Tomato Prices Reach Multi-Year High: How Much They Cost in October.
Farmers in Ukraine continue to raise prices for tomatoes due to reduced harvests and high demand.
Cool weather has led to a reduction in tomato production, and the drop in temperature has caused additional costs for producers.
Prices for greenhouse tomatoes currently stand at 55-65 UAH/kg, which is 10% higher than last week. These prices are the highest in the last 7 years. Most small producers have already finished sales, and large combines release tomatoes only in small batches due to low harvest volumes.
According to analysts, the prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine have risen by 22% compared to last year. Producers plan further price increases as demand continues to remain high despite the price hike.
In supermarkets, the average price for red tomatoes is 79.33 UAH/kg, for pink ones - 94.90 UAH/kg, and for cream tomatoes - 74.45 UAH/kg. In September, these prices were lower: red tomatoes cost 73.99 UAH/kg, pink ones - 77.56 UAH/kg, and cream ones - 59.25 UAH/kg.
The cost of cucumbers has also risen to 50-65 UAH/kg, which is 11% higher than at the end of last week.
