India Reduces Orders for Military Equipment from Russia - Media.

India is changing its strategy regarding the acquisition of defense equipment, reducing orders from Russia and increasing purchases from Western countries. According to Bloomberg, plans for the joint development of helicopters and fighter jets between India and Russia have been suspended, Indian officials reported. Instead, India is becoming a more active purchaser of military equipment from Western companies and is trying to develop weapons independently in collaboration with the USA and France. Since the beginning of 2018, the USA has become the main supplier of defense products for India, signing contracts worth over 20 billion dollars.
Despite this, India and Russia continue to jointly produce rifles and missiles in India, and Russia remains a key supplier of military equipment for South Asia. However, the main part of imports from Russia consists of spare parts for outdated equipment.
