Medics in the Trenches? Zelensky Changes Service Rules.

On June 12, 2025, a new decree of the President of Ukraine came into effect regulating the service conditions for medics. According to the document, individuals with medical and pharmaceutical education, as well as rehabilitation specialists, have new rules for military service under martial law. According to the Ministry of Health, the main changes are that medical and pharmaceutical specialists are now prohibited from being assigned to military positions that do not require relevant medical, pharmaceutical, or rehabilitation education. Moreover, they cannot be assigned to positions that require a lower level of education or qualifications than those of the candidate. If a serviceman expresses consent for such an assignment, then they can be assigned to the relevant position.

Requirements for Candidates for Military Positions

The decree also establishes requirements for candidates for military positions, among which there must be individuals with higher education in medical or pharmaceutical fields. The document also covers specialists with higher degrees in areas related to medical technologies, therapy, rehabilitation, and others, as well as those with postgraduate training in occupational therapy, prosthetics-orthotics, speech therapy, and more.

Thus, the new Regulation on the Service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine regulates the conditions for the appointment of medical and pharmaceutical specialists to military positions and establishes requirements for specialists in this area.
