The head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, Elena Vyalbe, stated that the international blocking of Russian athletes in winter sports, in particular in ski racing and biathlon, is a consequence of the actions of the European lobby. This information is provided by the publication 'Glavcom'.

“There is no point in comparing with summer federations, because there are many Asian and African countries in each of them. In winter sports it is much more complicated, especially in skiing and biathlon, where the Scandinavian and European lobby is involved. One person may want to help a lot, but what can he do?” - Vyalbe noted.

So far, the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes in winter Olympic sports has only been granted by the International Skating Union and the International Ski Mountaineering Federation. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation and the International Biathlon Union have maintained the suspension of Russians and Belarusians from participation since March 2022.
