One of the godfathers of the hryvnia, Volodymyr Pylypchuk, has passed away.


Ukraine has lost a prominent economist, scientist, and political figure, Volodymyr Pylypchuk. This was reported on his Facebook page.
Volodymyr Pylypchuk died in a Rivne hospital after a stroke. He was known as dedicated to his work, fair and honest, a loyal friend, and a person one could turn to for advice and help.
The funeral will take place in Rivne on January 24.
Volodymyr Pylypchuk was born on June 18, 1948, in the Rivne region. He was a people's deputy in the Ukrainian parliament of the I-II convocations and a member of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada. He was also a professor at the Kyiv Institute of National Economy.
Pylypchuk was the initiator of the creation of the hryvnia and production facilities for the manufacture of the national currency. He also contributed to the development of competition and the privatization of Ukraine's economy.
In 1993, he became a member of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine. Volodymyr Pylypchuk also participated in international meetings and held positions in various parliamentary delegations from Ukraine.
Regarding his political activity, he was one of the organizers of the People's Movement of Ukraine. Throughout his career, he held various positions and was a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine.
