UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin stated that Russian teams will be returned to the international arena after the war ends. Russian clubs and national teams have been suspended from participating in tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA since 2022 due to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The UEFA President also noted that this position had been expressed earlier but emphasized that it would happen after the end of the war. The UEFA Congress meeting held in Belgrade was dedicated to the memory of significant football figures and also honored Oleksiy Bugayev, a Russian occupant who was eliminated as a result of actions by Ukrainian defenders. He was a former player of the Russian national team and played for several clubs in the Russian Federation. The Washington legislator was sentenced to a strict regime colony for attempted drug trafficking. The return of Russian teams to the international arena after the end of the war will significantly depend on the situation in Ukraine and the resolution of the conflict between the states. However, the UEFA president's statement indicates the possibility of restoring sporting ties between Russia and the international community after peace is restored.
