Russia may decommission the only aircraft carrier 'Admiral Kuznetsov' — why.

The only Russian aircraft carrier might be decommissioned after seven years of repairs. The Ministry of Defense of Russia has suspended the repair of 'Admiral Kuznetsov' and may abandon its restoration.
This was reported by the opposition agency ASTRA.
Why Russia may be left without an aircraft carrier
Sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense have stated to journalists that there are plans to completely decommission the aircraft carrier after many years of repairs. Experts believe that Russia does not need aircraft carriers.
This is very expensive and ineffective naval weaponry. The future lies with carriers of robotic systems and unmanned aviation, — stated the former commander of the Pacific Fleet of Russia, Admiral Sergey Avakyanets.
However, a member of the State Duma's Defense Committee, Viktor Sobolev, noted that he had not heard anything about plans to decommission the ships. According to the deputy, it needs to be modernized despite the high costs.
Russia is a maritime power and should have, among other things, its aircraft carrier cruisers, — stated the deputy of Russia.
What is known about the aircraft carrier
The agency reminds that 'Admiral Kuznetsov' was handed over to the Navy in 1990, it participated in seven campaigns and once in combat operations in Syria, where over 400 sorties were made from its deck.
Since 2018, the ship has been undergoing repairs and modernization following an incident with a crane in a floating dock near Murmansk. Initially, it was planned to complete the work by 2022, but the deadlines have been constantly postponed.
In 2024, the OSINT project Moklasen reported that part of the crew of 'Kuznetsov' was likely sent to fight in Ukraine — sailors formed the 'Frigate' battalion, which participated in battles in the Kharkiv region and near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.
It was previously reported that Russian occupiers complain about the new AK-12. The automatic weapon begins to rust after a few days.
Additionally, we reported that cadets from the airborne school in Russia killed their sergeant by tying his parachute straps.
Constant traffic jams and delays in repairs may lead to the decommissioning of the only Russian aircraft carrier 'Admiral Kuznetsov'. This decision could indicate both strategic changes in military strategy and shortcomings in Russia's military technology.Read also
