In the Czech Republic, a Ukrainian woman and her son embezzled almost 2 million UAH in aid intended for refugees.

In the city of Ostrava in the Czech Republic, a case is being heard against Ukrainian Natalia Skarkova and her son Sergey Tkach. They are accused of illegally obtaining more than a million crowns from the local labor office, as well as attempting to embezzle half a million. This was reported by the Czech publication Novinky.cz.
According to the publication, the mother and son used a compensation program that was implemented during the war between Russia and Ukraine. They submitted applications for financial aid to the labor office, claiming to provide shelter for Ukrainian refugees. However, they had no housing and did not enter into any rental agreements.
In total, the woman and her son submitted 170 subsidy applications, but they were not provided with housing for refugees. They unlawfully received over a million crowns, said prosecutor Veronika Kohova.
The investigation began after the labor office approached the police. Despite their actions, the accused are still in the Czech Republic. According to the prosecutor, they admitted their guilt and fully compensated for the damages incurred.
Sentence in the case will be announced on February 24.
