DOGE Terminates Contracts Worth Billions of Dollars

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has announced that it canceled 113 contracts totaling $4.7 billion on Tuesday, including a significant contract from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for consulting on climate change in Peru.

[Tuesday], the agency canceled 113 wasteful contracts worth $4.7 billion and saved $3.3 billion, among which was a $145,000 contract from the Department of Agriculture for consulting on 'Peruvian climate activities'.

DOGE also reported that the U.S. Department of Labor canceled the 'America Last' grants totaling $577 million, saving $237 million.

Among the canceled funding were $10 million for women's equality in the workplace in Mexico, $12.2 million for workforce development in South America, and $6.25 million for improving workers' rights in the agricultural supply chain in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

Grants for Job Assistance in West Africa and South Asia Canceled

Additionally, $5 million for promoting women's participation in the workplace in West Africa was canceled, $4.3 million for assisting foreign migrants in Malaysia, $3 million for improving access to social protection and workers' rights for internal migrants in Bangladesh, and $3 million for safe and inclusive working environments in South Africa, including countries like Lesotho.

DOGE, led by Elon Musk, is a temporary structure in the White House established by an executive order this year.

President Donald Trump tasked this organization with optimizing the federal government, streamlining operations, and reducing expenditures, giving them an 18-month deadline.

DOGE Continues to Terminate Contracts and Reduce Waste

Numerous diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in federal agencies, consulting contracts, leases for unused federal buildings, and redundant agencies and programs have been eliminated in the past.

To date, according to DOGE on its website, it has saved Americans $130 billion, or $807.45 for each taxpayer.

Critics of DOGE argue that this organization has too much access to federal systems and should not be allowed to cancel federal contracts or cut expenditures across various agencies.
