Ukrainian car owners are increasingly faced with the dilemma of choosing between diesel and gasoline engines. According to information from RBC-Ukraine, diesel engines have both significant advantages and noticeable drawbacks.
Advantages of diesel engines
- Fuel efficiency - the main advantage. The biggest advantage of diesel engines is fuel efficiency. Modern diesel cars consume about 5.0 liters per 100 kilometers, and with an economical driving style, this figure can drop to 4.5-4.8 liters.
- Durability of construction. Diesel engines can operate without major repairs for 500-600 thousand kilometers, which significantly exceeds the capabilities of gasoline engines, especially small displacement turbocharged engines.
Disadvantages of diesel engines
- Acoustic discomfort. Among the disadvantages, an increased level of noise in diesel cars, especially until fully warmed up and while idling, is noted.
- Fuel requirements. Diesel cars require high-quality fuel of Euro-5 standard and above; using low-quality fuel can lead to breakdowns and additional costs.
Additional maintenance costs. Diesel engines require refueling with AdBlue urea solution, and repairs can be more expensive due to the use of high-cost components.
Heating issues. The high efficiency of diesel engines complicates the heating of the cabin in cold weather, which may require additional expenses.
Conclusion: Diesel and gasoline engines have their own advantages and disadvantages. Diesel engines are aimed at fuel-efficient driving and durability, but at the same Time, they can be less convenient and more demanding in maintenance compared to gasoline engines.
