Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina (No. 47 WTA) refused to participate in the Olympics due to a sore throat.
«Unfortunately, we stayed on the courts for a long Time yesterday, waiting for the competition to start. It rained all this time and this morning I felt a sore throat. Of course, I was very upset, because playing at the Olympics and representing my country, especially in such a difficult time, was a big dream and honor for me. But still, we decided not to take risks to avoid complications. Thank you all for your support and I wish victories to all Ukrainian athletes!»
Today, July 28, her match with Dutch Arantxa Rus was scheduled. Instead of Kalinina, Australian Olivia Gadecki will play.
Recall that Ukraine prematurely advanced to the team final of the Olympics in artistic gymnastics.
