Drivers are 'cheating' with speed cameras: how the authorities plan to stop it.

The installation of automatic speed enforcement cameras in Ukraine has significantly increased road safety. The number of accidents on dangerous sections of roads has decreased by 5-8 times, as well as the number of deaths and injuries.
According to the article 'Video monitoring system: how to legislatively regulate it correctly to enhance internal security', written by Bohdan Drapiatyi and Leonid Tymchenko on ZN.UA, this shows that modern technologies have a positive impact on road safety.
However, the existing system has its limitations. Experts acknowledge that some drivers simply reduce their speed in sections with cameras and then accelerate again after passing.
'In this matter, we can find a rational and effective technical solution, which also requires legislative changes that will allow measuring average speed and automatically determining the average speed a vehicle traveled from point A to point B,' the authors of the article state.
Experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police, along with members of parliament, have developed a draft law that addresses this issue. The draft law has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada under number 11029 and is expected to be adopted.
Ukraine has about 70 thousand surveillance cameras, but they operate without unified standards, which reduces their effectiveness in preventing and solving crimes.
Materials from surveillance cameras are used by the police to investigate and solve 9 out of 10 crimes. In addition, video cameras help identify Russian war criminals.
